What is SEO?
SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is the process of evaluating your website for search engine friendliness. Search engines send out “spiders” that crawl and index every word of every page on the internet. SEO looks at how the search engines work and then implements any changes that may be needed to ensure the website is being indexed properly. The other side of search engine optimisation then researches which keywords are most likely to be inputted by a searcher. These keywords are then placed strategically throughout the site. The end purpose of SEO is to gain high rankings within the search engine results pages for these prominent keywords, delivering targeted unique visitors to the site that are likely to convert into a sale or a lead.
What is PPC (Pay per Click)?
PPC or Pay per Click advertising is a form of paid for inclusion advertising within the search engine results page. These listings are generally highlighted a slightly different colour, and are generally called sponsored links. PPC usually consists on bidding for a keyword and paying per click you receive. The price can vary quite dramatically, ranging from $0.01 to $100.00’s. The price generally depends on the popularity of the keyword, and bidding wars between larger corporations tend to knock out any smaller competition from the advertising space. Pay per Click advertising can be beneficial for short burst campaigns, but should not be relied upon as your #1 marketing initiative. Improperly managed, PPC can exhaust budgets quickly for little or no benefit.
What is SMO (Social Media Optimisation)?
SMO or Social Media Optimisation is the utilisation of online social networking sites to promote your website or products in a passive way that encourages user interaction. The idea behind SMO is drive traffic from other sources outside of the search engines, and is closely related to viral marketing, utilising the power of word of mouth. Social Media optimisation allows the promoter to engage in their perspective audience in a friendly, appealing manner and has the opportunity to give a company the “human touch”. If conducted correctly, SMO can also influence higher rankings within the search engines.
What is ORM (Online Reputation Management)?
ORM or Online Reputation Management covers a couple of different avenues. On one side ORM is the process of promoting a company, product or brand through the use of online press release, blogs and social forums to attract more unique visitors to a particular website. This approach differs a lot from Search Engine optimisation (SEO), primarily because these press releases tend to get indexed by the search engines quickly, and rank higher quicker, but also tend to fade away after a certain amount of time. The other side of Online Reputation Management (ORM) is when a company needs to go into “damage control”. A majority of the same principals apply, however a more aggressive approach is generally required. An effective ORM campaign while a company is receiving bad press or bad word of mouth can drastically limit the damage caused by the negative comments, by limiting the rankings the bad press will receive.
What is VSEO (Video Search Engine Optimisation)?
VSEO or Video Search Engine Optimisation has a very similar feel to SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). The goals are basically the same, except for online video content. , ensuring that the videos reach a large audience and attract as much traffic to a website as possible. The strategy behind VSEO is to distribute your video to online video sharing sites while adding beneficial keywords to the tags, such as the title.
